Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. ~ 1Peter 1:21-25

Bible solution to what ails America. “What ails America” is likely the most regurgitated question currently on the minds of the curious and concerned who are witnessing the slow but sure decline of a once-great nation. A scribe far more eloquent and accomplished than yours truly, Gilbert T. Sewall, has come forth with a classic deliberation of what truly ails America. And it really is cause for concern, to which we will segue` following a little insight of my own.

Since the Sewall piece resides in the storied pages of The American Spectator, there are sufficient erudite commentaries on the accompanying thread from which I can cull a meaningful introduction prior to passing the baton on to Mr. Sewall.

Give people lots of free time and you don’t need a Bible to see where that leads. A welfare class has enormous amounts of free time and where society can’t solve real problems it invents imaginary ones along with their solutions. Much of what stands for government today is a Bible-less mitigation of the problems around the margins that it created in the first place. Idol worship also rules today but that isn’t actually new either. Simply scroll through a Bible for evidence.

As Edmund Burke might say, there are too many “good men” in government today who are incapable of doing anything that doesn’t weigh a political calculus on their behalf before casting a vote; assuming of course, that they do in fact vote (which the last occupant in the WH before Trump set records for not doing before he even got there).

That which is destroying this nation is institutionalized in law. We are presently on autopilot and that mountain looms ever closer. The current “do nothing” Congress is aiding and abetting the enemy here; after all, doing nothing is a win for the enemy and they will take that by default given how things are currently trending in our “democracy”.

No one can know what is in another’s heart or predict the future, but without a Bible and a pound of common sense regarding historical perspective, many in government need to find real jobs where there are objective standards of performance. Any human endeavor devoid of accountability will result in corruption of virtues and the base values that make civilization civilized. “Democracy” as it is known today and practiced, is the means to that end.

That same common sense says troubled times are blowing our way and some in government want to drop their drawers in the direction of the wind and service what may come. They already wear the mark.

On then to Gilbert T. Sewall and: “Resigned to Heaps of Trashiness – And the next Sutherland Springs”

In 1958, twenty-two years after he wrote Brave New World, the Englishman-moved-to-Los Angeles Aldous Huxley revisited his book and the future. Of democracies, Huxley said, “Under the relentless thrust of accelerating over-population and increasing over-organization, and by means of ever more effective methods of mind-manipulation, the democracies will change their nature.”

World population was then 1.5 billion; it’s now 7 billion with explosive growth led by Africa. The administrative state was in its infancy. Today, 21st-century corporate geniuses and government agencies comb through internet-based metadata, opening astonishing windows into the collective soul and then trying to direct it.

Huxley went on to say: “The quaint old forms — elections, parliaments, Supreme Courts and all the rest — will remain … All the traditional names, all the hallowed slogans will remain exactly what they were in the good old days. Democracy and freedom will be the theme of every broadcast and editorial … Meanwhile the ruling oligarchy and its highly trained elite of soldiers, policemen, thought-manufacturers and mind-manipulators will quietly run the show as they see fit.

And as Huxley’s counterpart, George Orwell, imagined in his dystopian novel, 1984, prurient entertainments would fill dim emotional needs and ease boredom. Orwell called this, prolefeed. Such electronic spectacles now include contrived race-injustice performances, pussy-hat marches, and mass killings, as likely as not explicitly crafted for cameras.

Hundreds gunned down in Las Vegas. (“That seems like ages ago!” a friend remarks.) Jihad in Manhattan. (“Only eight dead, whew.”) A few days later, a ghastly church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The cable channels light up for a few days, with ritual hand ringing over gun violence from the news establishment, then silence, and on to something new.

Bread and circuses have an immense following that cuts through all classes, races — everything. The audience includes those who ardently self-identify as conservatives. Fun suppliers — no longer hemmed in by religion-infused moral censors, aristocratic models, or legal barriers as in the past — gleefully push depravity, getting rich, powerful, and arrogant in the process.

“The imperial class is counting on gated communities and private security to keep it safe, warm and dry, if need be. Middling Americans aren’t so cosseted”. These two sentences really sum up the problem. The Left pushes its crazy and perverted agenda onto the masses and then hides behind their gated and guarded communities so they don’t have to deal with the fallout of their policies.

Even with the Bible as their foundation, the Founding Fathers’ failing was assuming the rights and privileges guaranteed by the Constitution would be practiced responsibly according to historic codes of good behavior, some religious, some not. Now that common decency and morality not only are not practiced, but have become increasingly risible, American constitutionalism seems doomed.

The cyclical nature of history is replete with examples of decadence because of the fallen nature of man. Acknowledgement of this theologically-derived truth explains the current cycle we are witnessing. This is why the first word coming from the mouths of both the forerunner of the Christ, John the Baptist, and Jesus, was “Repent!”

As Peter sermonized on the day of Pentecost, we need to recognize our need to return to God and the Bible to be safe from this crooked generation. May this be the operative word in this our day of anguish, that we may indeed return to the God of the Bible who makes us free!

God bless the U.S.A., may he save us from its trashiness and teach us to number our days.

Marty Goetz and the children’s chorus bringing us Psalm 90….

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost … Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ~ Acts 2:37-41
