27 year old Billy Graham and ‘Youth for Christ’ …

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. ~ II Corinthians 5:8-10

“Dear God, I’m a sinner. I’m sorry for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe He died for my sin and that You raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Jesus, I put my trust in You and I surrender my life to You. Please come into my life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”

“Did you pray this prayer today?” ~ Billy Graham

Maine Road, home of Man City, venue for Billy Graham Crusade, May-June 1961…

And with that, the invitation boomed out around the football ground; thousands – literally thousands – of all ages streaming down from the terraces of the old Maine Road Stadium, home of Manchester City, with yours truly among them.

Drawn by the preacher man come all the way from America to reach and refresh the heart and soul of Britain over a month-long Crusade through May-June of 1961, I was seventeen years old at the time and was just one of our youth group from Bethel Congregational Church, three or four bus-loads of us, hauled in by our leadership for us not to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Billy Graham last-ever Crusade, Texas Stadium, October 2002…

Fast forward some forty years later to 2002, this time at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, the now-demolished Texas Stadium, and lo-and-behold the now ‘American-Brit’ visits the preacher man on his own turf for his last ever crusade. The message had barely changed, and in what turned out to be the biggest attendance during the few days of the event, I had my two younger sons in tow, and all three of us, plus a member of my Teen Community Bible Study class, went down together with the same routine I had experienced forty years prior. Now how special is that?!

Just for the record, to see how important the number ’40’ is in biblical terms, go here to E.W.Bullinger and ‘Number in Scripture’ ….

God, if you haven’t noticed, really does ‘move in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform’ … and in that vein, sit back, relax, and enjoy this hot off the production line biography of arguably the most prodigious and effective messenger of God’s Word in living memory, at least by sheer numbers, that is…

Some random comments from the thread following the video…

  • Thanks so much for uploading this video. I love Jesus and I have been listening to Billy Graham since a child. Thank you, Mr. Graham for all what you have done to spread the Good News to us all. You will be missed so much but you are now with our Lord. Rest in peace, we love you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
  • Glory to God. 2 Cor 5:8 we are confident, I say… He’s HOME NOW with the Father. Thanks so much our Lord and savior Jesus Christ for his awesome example as a Christ’s Disciple. I will follow his foot steps. Thanks so much LORD Jesus Christ.
  • Wow, What a beautiful story of an exceptional Christian life. See you in heaven Billy and Ruth Graham… Thank you for all you contributed to changing hearts and minds. May the peace of Jesus be over your family and may Jesus’ work continue. Perhaps, this is the beginning of the third great awakening before our Lord and Savior’s return.
  • Oh how I miss him, I can’t stop crying. He is my inspiration and his sermons talked with me very deeply and gave me new hope. I want to live life like him glorifying GOD. I will see JESUS face to face and meet this ambassador of GOD too. Its saddening yet joyful he has finally reached home.
  • What a loss!! I almost feel as though I’ve lost a dearly beloved family member. I grew up “with him” as a child watching his crusades. As a teenager when he held a crusade in Baton Rouge I didn’t miss a night and sang in the choir. I think he was the Protestant equivalent of the pope; he was so highly revered and respected. He will be greatly missed but at least we know where he is now! R.I.P. Brother Billy.
  • Praise God for letting us have this man of God to preach the Word and live the life of a true servant of God. You will be missed but never forgotten until we meet you in Heaven some day soon.
  • Matthew 24-14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. We are there, the last generation, look up everyone.

And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. ~ II Chronicles 7: 12-15
