Loreena McKennitt

Breathe life into this feeble heart, lift this mortal veil of fear; take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears, we’ll rise above these earthly cares… brought to you by Loreena McKennitt, songstress par excellence. Some random thoughts on God’s working a working within each and every one of us. Not one of we 7-billion people on the planet are here without reason, or purpose; if for no other mundane expression which declares we’re all here to help and uplift each other in times of need …

1) This song has gotten me through some painfully dark times. Every time I sit and really listen to it, I cry my eyes out, and feel like my soul has been cleansed. I also would like to extend my blessings and wishes to all of the other people who have, admittedly, been through far worse than I. Pain and loss is something that no one should have to live with, yet all do end up with it at some point or another. Here’s to saying my thoughts are with you and yours. ~ Haeraticus

2) This song was my gift to my friend’s only child. He died aged 15 because of epilepsy, and she found him dead in his bed one morning. This song was my gift for his funeral, and was played there. Kevin, we will never forget you. Sleep well till we see each other again, little angel. I’ll be sure to take care of your mommy. ~ Vermo

3) Anything that Loreena creates is golden. Such beautiful composition, lyrics and voice. Amazing art! From my perspective, the song speaks of light in darkness. Love is to be remembered to help us carry on. Hope in despair. Love and light in sorrow and night. It is what drives us. To never give up on your dreams. There is always a way and path that leads to them. But the hope/love is the light that shines on that path for you to see the way. Lantern. The stars, light and reflection of the sea. ~ Kyra

4) She wrote this song while reading the Divine Comedy on the Orient Express, but it’s about a friend of hers who drowned while sailing the ocean. So I guess it’s about both the book and her friend. ~ Gabrielle

5) My husband went to Heaven on March 17th 2006. The Book of Secrets was one of his most prized possessions. Each anniversary of his passing, I play it for him. I play it really loud so he can hear it up there. Gary, your music collection will never leave this house. I hope you didn’t hear me cry while you listened to the CD. I just hope you enjoyed the music. I miss you and love you. ~ Love, Jane

6) Dedicated to my father who passed away two years ago – but he is in our hearts and he will be until we meet him in Heaven. Also dedicated to all the people who have lost a loved one – the sorrow of the loss is the same in all the people in the world. Be patient and pray to God for their souls. ~ Venthe

7) I played this song at my little angel’s funeral two months ago. He only had the right to become 3 weeks old. Sean, you will always be in your parents’ hearts and your twin-sister will know everything about you. We miss you so much and this song gives us so much strengh to survive your passing and staying strong for you and your sister. You were the best baby-child ever and we will all see each other again in heaven one day. ~ Love from Your Mom, Nicole

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. ~ Psalm 23

When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone

I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and the fire

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars

Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We’ll rise above these earthly cares

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me…
