Alexis de Tocqueville .. Author, ‘Democracy in America’, 1835

Breaking: Incredible events overnight that kept yours truly wide awake until the wee small hours. President Donald J. Trump changing the world one step at a time as he becomes the first ever President of the United States to enter North Korea at the invitation of Kim Jong-un.

Asked to recount the moment and first words with Kim when they approached the North-South line of demarcation, President Trump later said he asked Kim: “would you like me to come across. Kim said he would be honored. It was my honor to do it,” said President Trump.

The rest, as the old cliché goes, is history. A ‘Trump card’ indeed. More to come on this incredible event later. Now to the topic at hand…

This past Thursday, Bruce Thornton had one of his usual brilliant pieces aglow yet again in FrontPageMag on the topic of ‘Old Wisdom, Modern Folly’, the content of which is available through the link down below.

The introduction runs:

‘When it comes to America’s political order, there is no commentator today who has yet come close to the brilliance of Alexis de Tocqueville, who was astonishingly prescient in pointing out the dangers inherent in the democracy he so admired. The political dysfunctions and crises roiling our nation today were predicted by Tocqueville in Democracy in America, published in 1835 when the United States was not yet fifty years old’. [end]

Thus using that as a platform, yours truly chose a few de Tocqueville quotes around which I wove the modern day predicament.

America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville

In the spring of 1777, the great men of America arrived in Philadelphia for the fourth meeting of the Continental Congress, the de facto government of the rebel republic. When they stepped from their carriages onto the cobblestone streets, they could see that they were in for a very long war. John Adams walking around in Philadelphia after nightfall, was appalled by the low class scum, prostitutes, drunks etc., that he saw. The idea that these people could vote and that their choice counted as much as that of an educated man, bothered him to such an extent that he had written “My God, what have we done? Men died for such as these?” For a moment he questioned the wisdom of breaking away from Britain.

Take a look around today and recall that the low-IQ, uneducated, unhinged etc. can vote, and that those votes have the same weight as yours. Should the mess that stands for the Democrat side of the equation be allowed to have their way, there soon would be nothing left of a once-great nation.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville

If ‘beneficiaries’ falls out as the Democrat Party version of the Federal Government that was on stark display this past Wednesday / Thursday in what passed for their debate schedule, they’ll figure out a way to take it. The money, that is. All of it. The wackier and bigger the better. They always do.

Nothing appears to be out of bounds. They need to add your money to their slush fund so they can splurge on practices and policies that matter to them, and leave IOUs in its place for you. The US government as currently structured and operated is nothing more nor less than a colossal Ponzi scheme.

To which, try as he might, fearless president Trump is doing his darnedest to pragmatically remove and reform. Based on his success the past 2 1/2 years, his toughest nut is having to break the Democrats’ philandering with the public’s money. Exactly as predicted by de Tocqueville 184 years ago.

Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville

Which just about rules out the immoral Democrat party from every redeeming topic anyone could list. A current listing of the latest manifesto includes free college; newborns murdered on demand; anti-God / anti-Christian / anti-constitutional; elimination of 1st and 2nd Amendments; embracing a two-tiered justice system; enforcing religion of bogus Global Warming science; elimination of health insurance and replacing it with government-run medical system; anti-Israel; anti-white male; pro-homosexual / lesbian / transgender; support of radical muslims / illegal aliens over US citizens; deny border crisis and eliminate borders; Constitutional rights for illegal aliens; eliminate airplanes / vehicles / farming / cows; rebuild all current buildings; replace Capitalism with Socialism….

Believe it or not, those are but a few of the recently exposed primary planks to be considered in their 2020 convention platform. In the immortal words of Gropey Joe Biden – ‘unhinged I tell’ya, unhinged’!

History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville

Especially of course, when 250 years of history begins to be wiped out by liberal progressive Socialists who desire to rid the nation of any vestige of ties to the past, the founding of the nation, the struggle for independence, the sacrifices paid for the protection of freedom, and helping our allies in their own quest for the same freedoms. Stonewall.

What is seen and unseen? You have an acceptable standard of living, for now, under a mixed-economy, acceptable because the greater wealth creation and greater prosperity, the higher standard of living that would have been achieved in the Free Market is not seen, cannot be seen. The lower standard of living in a mixed-economy, the reduced health of the economy, becomes the new normal, for now, until the unstable mix has to be recalibrated again if it can be or not, and the economy collapses.

‘A mixed economy has to reach the day when it faces a final crossroad: either the private sector regains its freedom and starts rebuilding—or it gives up and lets the absolute state take over the shambles.’ – Ayn Rand

When the past no longer illuminates the future, the spirit walks in darkness. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville

Did not Sweden have to reduce its socialist welfare programs, i.e., reduce the poison in the mix considerably in the 1990s because their economy was faltering too much – was getting too sick and would die if the socialist element was not reduced?

Were the Swedes not lucky that this time there was enough common sense that the compromise, the pendulum, between economic freedom and economic slavery, swung away from more socialism towards more free market, less poison and more nutrition?

They told the vampire only one pint of blood a night not six, or we’ll kill the host. But how about the next time? How about the future? What’s to stop a new generation of Swedes in the future to be more like a Bernie Sanders or an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez than a Ronald Reagan or a Donald Trump?

The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville
