Mothers’ intuition: nation-build!
Well, let’s examine the generational progression here, c.1952 at Grandma’s house in Lancashire…
There’s my paternal Grandmother in the middle; my Aunt Nora to her right; and my Mother Pollie, to her left. Then there’s me and my sister Diane.
Aunt Nora was the wife of my Father’s oldest brother (Uncle Bob, who followed me constantly through my football [soccer] career in England, and whose signet ring I still wear on my fourth right finger on special occasions); she was the Mother of my cousin Sheila, who married Brian (a fellow-pro soccer player) and they produced a son and daughter who are now grandparents in their own right.
Diane married John, and they had two daughters, who now through sons-in-law, have produced three grandchildren (two girls/one boy). The eldest daughter, her husband and two girls emigrated to New Zealand and are there still. The younger daughter and her husband migrated three miles up the road from Diane and John and are the ones with the boy.
Yours truly has been in North America since 1968 having brought forth three sons from two wives who have been exceptional mothers (rather more than I, the prodigal father). The eldest son in Canada with his beautiful wife; the two younger ones American born and bred, recently married within the past year, having chosen well above pay-grade with beautiful life-companions.
With citizenship in three countries, yours truly has been blessed with many and various adventures, but have never, ever lost sight of the fact that a good mother is required in every single family. Having been as American as the proverbial ‘apple pie’ for the past umpteen years, who would’ve ‘thunk’ it back then outside that little home in Wigan in the company of three wonderful mothers, that I would one day be honoring all my family Mothers on this May 10th 2020 Mother’s Day here in the great State of Texas USA? (some great biblical studies, btw, from E.W.Bullinger in today’s numerics 5/10/2020 !)
