“I do not see how any Supreme Court in the world can declare teachings in this vein illegal. There is no reason for Americans to raise their children in a communist type school that denies the existence of a God. The theory of the equality of man is religious in origin and to raise our children in a moral atmosphere is to recognize the existence of a Supreme Overlord.” ~ President Dwight Eisenhower, on the 1963 Supreme Court ruling banning the Bible from schools.
Supremes fail again .. As I have written many times before, it is alarming to think where We The People once were as a nation in our relationship to God and how rapidly we have fallen to the depths we are in today. Prior to the above action of the 9 Black-Robed Executioners who took God out of the schools against the overwhelming will of the people, Lyndon B. Johnson in a fit of rage against the churches not supporting him in 1954, introduced (and got passed) the Johnson Amendment which we know today as “501(c)3” or the tax-exempt status for churches and other charitable organizations; the imprimatur being that pastors under a 501(c)3 were denied preaching from the pulpit on the politics of their leaders. Suffice to say at this stage, that more, and more, and more churches are getting away from tax-exempt status, for the very reason that who you elect to represent you politically, must share the same beliefs, or at least be grounded in some of them, because their decisions and bills that are raised and passed, determine what kind of nation we are, or become.
The bogus contention of “separation of church and state” has been played around unmercifully as supposed proof that our Founding Fathers desired (for want of a better expression) a “religion-free” Republic, which wasn’t the case at all. I won’t bore you with Constitutional Exegesis, but the Supremes fail again and there are more than a few great historical studies around on this topic which are readily available for confirmation of what I opine (as a “for instance” take a look at the quote above from John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court). But not to lose track of my topic today, I bring us to my piece on the website from Thursday regarding the current edition of the Supreme Court and their non-action on the topic of homosexual “marriage.” My contention which I put before you is this: 1954 the Johnson Amendment; 1963 the above-referenced ruling to remove God from schools; ten years later, 1973, the Black-Robed Executioners imposed abortion-on-demand (known as Roe v Wade) the result of which is 55 million babies “disposed of” since the ruling; and now, the current edition of the Black-Robed Executioners caving to another abomination, which is totally against the will of God. Supremes fail again and just how far do We The People think we can go against God’s will before he feathers us with His judgment? Don’t we learn anything from history?
To the “Jesus never existed” crowd, let me remind you of a few truths…
In addition to the historical pages of the Bible, the three most important Roman historians of the first-century period — Tacitus, Suetonius, and Josephus, all made mention of Jesus:
1. Josephus, a Roman Jew, was born in 37 A.D., just after the death of Jesus, mentioned Christ twice in his writings. Contemporary Christian theologian Mark Allan Powell, author of Jesus As a Figure in History, finds it noteworthy that Josephus, a Jew who was not a Christian, would refer to Jesus with the term “Christ,” which means messiah or savior. Josephus wrote: “At this time there appeared Jesus a wise man. For he was a doer of startling deeds, a teacher of people who received the truth with pleasure. And he gained a following both among Jews and among many of Greek origin. And when Pilate, because of an accusation made by the leading men among us, condemned him to the cross, those who had loved him previously did not cease to do so. And up until this very day the tribe of Christians (named after him) has not died out.”
2. Tacitus (56-117 A.D.), a Roman senator, recorded that Jesus was “executed in Tiberius’s reign by the governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate.” Tacitus wrote this in the context of introducing the Christians who were followers of the executed man.
3. Suetonius, writing around 120 A.D., reported that the emperor Claudius expelled Jews from Rome because of trouble arising over “Chrestus.” Most scholars think “Chrestus” is a mangled spelling of the Latin for “Christ.”
Additionally, Billy Graham, in his book from last year, “The Reason For My Hope” lists numerous people of historical significance who weren’t ashamed to speak on the human reality of Jesus Christ; Justin Martyr, Tertullian, and Eusebius; Julian; Jean Jacques Rousseau; Napoleon; Vincent Van Gogh; Lord Byron; H.G.Wells; Charles Dickens; Daniel Webster; George Bancroft; David Strauss; Philip Schaff; Ernest Renan; Sholem Asch; Archaeologists William Albright and Nelson Glueck, and literally thousands of other notables declaring the presence on the world’s stage of Jesus Christ…
In coming to the wrap of this piece on the Supremes fail again, I adjure us all to dwell contemplatively on where our nation was spiritually in the days of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and where we are today. Our Republic is in desperate need for a strong revival and a renewed Spiritual Awakening along the lines of what Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield and others brought on in the years leading up to the Declaration of Independence. And I cannot think of a better way to conclude the piece on a positive note, than sharing with, and lifting up, our great military men and women who have always been on the front lines of building and developing this greatest Constitutional Republic ever placed on planet Earth.
Sunday Devotional: Petition God with a Grateful Heart
Philippians 4:1,6-9
Therefore, my brethren dearly-beloved and longed for, my joy and crown,
so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall
keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard,
and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Dear Heavenly Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
we worship you, we praise you, we glorify you.
We thank you for the many completely gratuitous gifts,
and especially of life itself.
Please Bless and protect our brave men and women
in the military who, each and every day, risk their very lives
in so many diverse places across the world, including
the 3,000 dispatched to West Africa to constrain the Ebola
epidemic. Please keep them all safe under your
protective covering; let your mantle of protection
be upon and around each and every one of them;
and bring them back safely to their families.
In Jesus’ mighty and precious name. Amen.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen. Maranatha!
